Weekly Pro Wrestling News 07-12-09

-[WWE weekly news for 07-12-2009]-

- Who’s in charge?

According to Newsweek.com the USA network is now the top earner in the NBC Universal family. Bonnie Hammer, the CEO of USA, has been reported as offering suggestions, story lines, and even offering cross promotion of WWE wrestlers in USA originals shows. The question becomes, as Raw gains popularity, will Vince lose control over the content?

- Mayor “The King” Lawler -

Jerry Lawler announced he will be running for Mayor of Memphis during a special election in October 2009. If he gets in office, we can say goodbye to Mr. Lawler as Raw’s Monday Night announcer.

- Cena Married -

John Cena was married today to his high-school sweethart. Congrads to John and his new wife.

- Mr. Kennedy –

For those who have not figured it out, Mr. Kennedy has been released from the WWE. Promoters who wish to book Mr. Kennedy can contact DavidHerro@aol.com

- Matt Hardy -

Matt Hardy has underwent abdomen surgery on July 2nd. He’s currently recovering and when he returns, he swears to never let anything stop him in life, or the ring. I wish Hardy a speedy recovery.

The show was terrific and got great reviews from most fans. I was personally happy to see the WWE diva division show more from their wrestlers than T&A.

- No ECW this week -

Thanks SyFy.

- Monday Night Raw -

Fantastic action this week featuring guest General Manager, the “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase Sr. The card featured Triple H vs. John Cena for the Night Of Champions WWE World Heavyweight title match against Randy Orton.  Other  matches included Edge and Jericho vs. Carlito and Primo, Maryse Ouellette and Alicia Fox vs Mickie James and Gail Kim, Cody Rhodes vs. Mark Henry, Ted DiBiase Jr vs Randy Orton,  and Kofi Kingston vs. Evan Bourne.

More details on WWE Monday Night Raw .

- WWE Thursday Night Superstars –

Ricky Ortiz vs. R Truth – Former NFL line-breaker Ortiz proved he has a mean streak. R Truth is not new to the wrestling world and Ricky took it to Truth, grounding the hi-flier and shutting him down. Ultimately though, R Truth won the match scoring the “Lie Detector”.

Zakk Ryder vs. Tyler Rex – This match was so boring that the ECW announcers at ring side quickly ran out of things to say and had to talk about Ryder’s headband. Fans were not booing them, but there seemed to be little to no interest in what was going on.  All I can say is “what a waste of ten minutes of air time”. Ryder wins the match, but even announcer Matt Styker is calling them “tools”. :)

Chavo Guerrero vs. Hornswaggle – McMahon scheduled this match proving Chavo has hit an all time low having to complete against Hornswaggle on his knees. At one point, Guerrero was  kicked out the ring by the midget. The match was hilarious at most and was won by Hornswaggle.

- WWE Friday Night Smackdown -

The WWE Friday Night Smackdown  show featured Rey Mysterio vs Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship title in an epic battle. Other matches included were Jeff Hardy vs. Kane, Dolph Ziggler vs John Morrison, Eve Torres and Melina vs. Michelle McCool and Layla, CM Punk vs. The Great Khali, and Cryme Tyme vs. The Hart Dynasty.

More details on WWE Friday Night Smackdown and Cryme Tyme’s official word of the week .

- Kurt Angle talks about retiring -

- Speaking to FilmsInReview.com Kurt Angle said this “I’m kind of caught in the middle right now but I am making the jump into movies. I’m in four films this year. [...] When you get into professional wrestling and you see how brutal it is and you are on the road for 250-300 days per year, it starts to wear on you a bit. I got to the point where I knew I could not do it anymore. I am 40 years old, and as much as I want to stay with TNA as long as I can, I know I can’t go full time forever. I want to provide for my kids and give them everything they want and give them all the things that I never had and save enough for them to get through college.”
