Weekly Pro Wrestling News 07-20-09
-[Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling News]-
- TNA’s Victory Road featured absolutely no X-Division matches. ( Hurricane Helms voice) What’s up with that?
- Taz was revealed to be the hidden “mentor“ of Samoa Joe. But the story didn’t seem to sit well with the crowd on hand.
- Jeremy Borash revealed that Bobby Lashley was backstage during the event. My question is how long are they going to promote Lashley before he actually does something? Typical MEM style.
- Something else is puzzling me about Victory Road. Two of the three belts that changed went to MEM veterans. Booker T and Scott Steiner beat Beer Money Inc and Kevin Nash (of all people) took the Legends Championship from AJ Styles. The latter, I can stomache because Kevin Nash IS a legend in the business. But what happened to the push for all the wrestlers that brought TNA to this dance? If Dixie Carter allows TNA to start down the WCW road and play pecking order instead of showcasing younger talent, they will wind up the same way WCW did. Bankrupt and bought out. People quit watching WCW because the older veterans took over the show (in the same way they’re taking over TNA) and used young and talented wrestlers as jobber while they main evented everything. Why watch TNA then? You can already see *THAT* on two of the four WWE shows a week.
- Kurt Angle wrestled both Thursday’s iMPACT and Victory Road with an obvious injury. Why didn’t Jeremy Borash say anything about this?
- In more TNA wrestling news, Melissa Anderson debuted on TNA this week as “Alissa Flash“.
- Christopher Daniels is back from a “self-imposed twitter exile”. You can follow him here.
- Shelly Martinez (Salinas) is actually following me on twitter. You can follow her here.
-[World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Wrestling News]-
- Tony Atlas will be leaving the WWE shortly. Internal sources say that Atlas was brought back as a favor to help him with some financial issues.
- Serena Deeb is currently training in Florida Championship Wrestling under a developement contract with WWE. Shouldn’t be long before her television debut if I know Serena.
- If people are confused as to what exactly “Jesse“ thinks he is doing with Cryme Tyme. It’s a forced matchup to try and change his persona. LOL. Seriously though, for those of you who didn’t know it, Jesse is Michael Hayes‘ son and Michael Hayes is currently the head creative writer for Smackdown. So, even though Jesse has been on the short list to the chopping block, he’s been given another chance. *THANKS DAD!*
- Is anyone else tired of hearing the WWE tout Seth Green’s Raw appearance? Come on now, the guy looked like Hornswaggle in the ring compared to Legacy, Triple H, and John Cena. It was NOT that entertaining.
- ZZ-Top will be hosting Raw as general managers tonight. I’m not looking forward to this being very entertaining either. Good music, but where’s the emphasis on wrestling? I think the wrestling superstars should get together and shave ZZ-Top bald. Now *THAT* would be entertaining.
- While Rey Mysterio finally seems intent on remaining with WWE, the future of Jeff Hardy doesn’t. Though Jeff has indicted he’s not interested in re-signing his contract as this time, WWE is currently trying to keep the superstar until at least SummerSlam.
-[Other Wrestling News]-
- Remember Vampiro from WCW? Well, it seems that during a home invasion this week, he jumped 15 feet from his window in an attempt to escape. He landed incorrectly and broke four vertebrae in his middle and lower back, also re-injuring two herniated discs in his neck.
- Mr. Kennedy is finally talking about his problems in the WWE. Seems Mr. Kennedy was tired of playing first base and saw no end in sight. He’s now a free agent, I look for TNA to grab him up quick.
