Weekly Pro Wrestling News 08-02-09

-[Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling News]-

- Valid news in TNA is rare recently due to all the internal problems within the organization. But here is a startling figure, for the last pay-per-view, Slammiversary sported only 7000 viewers of the 1.5 million they draw on their weekly program. Many times have I blogged that TNA was headed down the same road as WCW by loading their TV spots with older wrestlers. It isn’t what brought TNA to the dance and it’s not what brought WCW to the dance. They wound up taking over and strangling the organization. People tune in to wrestling to watch great matches between their favorite superstars, not to see sluts dancing around in their underwear with no talent. The final proof I needed was the match booked between Jenna and Sharmell. Neither of these women belonged in a wrestling ring when you have Awesome Kong, Taylor Wilde, Raisha Saeed, ODB, Tara, and etc… Even as smutty as the Beautiful People act at times, at least they can wrestle.

- Mike Tenay and Don West should be replaced by Mick Foley and Taz. TNA should also try to grab Hurricane Helms to do interviews instead of that twit Jeremy Borash. I’ve never seen that much meaningless drivel come from one person.

-[World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Wrestling News]-

- Maryse Ouellette went under the knife having knee surgery on July 25th. She will probably be inactive in the ring for at least three months.

- WWE is making their programming available to watch weekly on hulu.com approximately four days after the television airings. The following are links to the latest broadcasts ECW - Superstars - Smackdown.

- WWE.com is still showing Jeff Hardy will appear at the October 6th Smackdown/ECW taping in Trenton, New Jersey. This must really worry Vince McMahon since Jeff is probably the hottest thing in pro wrestling today. I can understand Jeff’s need for time off, especially to help his brother’s recovery, it has to be difficult to choose the proper path for Hardy. Either way, I hope he does not completely quit wrestling in televised promotions.

- Currently, the WWE injury list extends to Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Edge, Matt Hardy, Maryse, and Batista. With Jeff Hardy (current World Heavyweight Champion holder) expected to leave soon, Vince McMahon is obviously frustrated.

- The bigger picture here is that Vince McMahon is ignoring the obvious promotion sitting right in his face. He’s willing to spend gobs of money looking at untried and untelevised faces from failing developmental organizations when Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, The Motor City Machine Guns, Eric Young, Jay Lethal, Awesome Kong, and Taylor Wilde are all television tested and experienced wrestlers that would require little training if any to blend into the three shows (or 5 hours a week) WWE produces. There are five championship titles (including the women’s division), the Intercontinental title and US title, plus 2 tag team title belts that currently HAVE to be unified because there is very little tag team competition within the WWE. Adding nine experienced wrestlers to the mix would help the shows tremendously and egos could still be satisfied.

- Lillian Garcia will be vacating the WWE ring announcer position on August 24th, 2009 after almost ten years of announcing superstars to the ring. Be sure to watch her last appearance, I’m sure it will be a big to do.

- This week’s special guest general manager for Raw seems to be highly controversial. Many people, including wrestlers backstage are not sure whether he will just promote his upcoming movie or be seriously involved in the show. My feeling is that it is unlikely that Jeremy Piven will be involved in the ring and if he is, it will be as ridiculous as Seth Green’s showing.
