Weekly Pro Wrestling News 08-23-09

-[WWE Weekly Pro Wrestling News For 08-22-2009]-

- The top pro wrestling news making superstar of WWE is by far Jeff Hardy, however, that may soon change. Jeff is still planning on going hiatus directly after SummerSlam. His brother Matt Hardy stated on twitter that he and Jeff would not compete as a tag team due to singles interests. He also stated that Jeff would still be with WWE after SummerSlam. This is one of those “only time will tell” events.

- Matt Hardy blogged this week about the abdomen tear that he dealt with for years before getting it repaired read the whole story.

- October 4th will mark a new pay-per-view date called “Hell In A Cell“. Rumor has it that it will feature three cell matches probably featuring the top superstars in each brand.

- I’ve read several pro wrestling news articles this week that state my feelings almost verbatim on the new talent initiative World Wrestling Entertainment is pursuing. To sum it all up, you have young wrestlers brought to Raw to play second fiddle to wrestlers who are already over. I see the new talent. Where’s the initiative? It stuns me that Jack Swagger and Evan Bourne are not receiving more of a creative push. Smackdown has combined new and old talent with great story lines, but ECW is becoming little more than a glorified FCW taping.

- Chris Jericho was interviewed by  the Baltimore Sun stating that Raw was in a crisis period. There are no pushes for the younger talent and when the big names are gone, Raw will be devastated. Jericho also added that of Shawn Michaels’ first comments upon returning was, “Whose been built since I left?”.

- Speaking of Raw, Floyd “Money” Mayweather will return to the ring as Raw’s guest general manager this Monday August 24th. I expect Big Show and Jericho will not be happy since the  last time Mayweather stepped in the ring with Show, he broke his nose and caused him a loss at Wrestlemania 24.

- In yet more pro wrestling news, it seems the firing of Eugene was spurred by Vince McMahon after watching his performance that night in Calgary. Vince was unimpressed and therefore simply let Nick Dinsmore go.

- It looks like Shaemus will be staying as WWE aggressively tries to trademark the “Celtic Warrior” name. Please, someone give him a tan or put some clothes on him.

- The Undertaker is booked to re-appear in September, while the exact date is being kept somewhat of a secret, Smackdown creative has been told to start the teasers.

- DX vs Legacy at SummerSlam has now been moved to “Main Event” status along with John Cena vs Randy Orton and CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy.

- Mickie James was chewed out by WWE management after her reaction when her match with Gail Kim fell apart. Kim was knocked senseless and legitimately injured and James was told her conduct was “unprofessional”.

-[TNA Weekly Pro Wrestling News For 08-22-2009]-

- Again topping TNA pro wrestling news is the Rhaka Khan - Kurt Angle breakup. Kurt has an entirely different story to tell about their breakup and his arrest for violating a restraining order. Here is the video : Kurt Angle explains arrest. TNA’s official stance on the matter is “that as crazy as some people are in the company, if you add up all the craziness of everyone else, she, by herself, beats that.” So Kurt will continue appearing on TNA shows unless the courts deem otherwise.

- Lisa Varon (aka Tara) is going to try her hand in MMA fighting towards the beginning of next year. Her contract with TNA is flexible enough to allow her to compete in both productions.

- Awesome Kong inadvertently released  a story of a three year deal between Spike and TNA.

- Christy Hemme returned to the ring last week in a ridiculous charade of a wrestling match against Sojo Bolt. Two comments and I’m done with saying anything else about this woman.

1) She was released from WWE for good reason, she’s not wrestling material. She may be beautiful, flexible, and full of spunk, but true wrestling fans can see serious mistakes throughout her matches, and she’s not getting better.

2) I am of the opinion that this woman is going to get severely hurt. She simply does not have the build or speed needed to pull off memorable matches.

Nuff said about Christy.

- For those of you that follow TNA regularly, I believe we were all happy to see Don West get promoted off the air to a position that he is better capable to handle. Don is probably a very nice guy that loves wrestling as much as I do, Taz has experience both announcing high profile wrestling matches and valuable in ring experience to help sell the shows. Congrads to both Taz and Don West for their promotions. Personally, I would like to see Mick Foley take the other announce spot. Mike Tenay has never been a great announcer in the biz, even in his WCW days. He is repetitive beyond necessity and lacks the ability to sell matches due to a lack of in-ring experience.

-[Other Weekly Pro Wrestling News For 08-22-2009]-

- Ring Of Honor (ROH) announced the September 26th show at the Hammerstein Ballroom will feature Eddie Kingston vs Chris Hero and The American Wolves, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards defending their Tag Team Titles against Kevin Steen and El Generico in the return of the Ladder War match. This match will be violent! :)

- Jerry Lynn was hospitalized Saturday after suffering a stinger while taking a spike pile-driver from Kenny King and Rhett Titus. Prayers go out to Jerry, he is truly one of professional wrestling’s finest.

- Former WWE Superstar Mr. Kennedy’s no-compete clause is set to expire in two weeks. Kennedy is now going by the name “Mr. Anderson” and TNA is taking a hard look at hiring him.
