Weekly Pro Wrestling News 08-08-09
-[World Wrestling Entertainment News for 08-08-2009]-
- Jeff Hardy’s contract expiring this month is hitting the top of pro wrestling news around the internet. WWE has put Jeff’s name back into house show advertisements in September and October, and he’s appearing on the cover of WWE Magazine for September. Yet, sources close to Jeff insist he’s wrapping up his involvment with WWE after SummerSlam. Only time will tell.
- Monday Night Raw’s guest host GM this week will be none other than “Hall of Famer“, Sgt. Slaughter. While Slaughter is older, he’s wise to the business, and an obvious wrestling fan/performer. He will, at least, will get a great pop from the crowd and “hopefully” keep wrestling relevant to the show.
- Last Monday Night Raw’s house show got a post-televised show featuring Randy Orton and Big Show vs. Triple H and John Cena. The match lasted nearly twenty minutes until Triple H scored the pin-fall over Randy Orton post-Pedigree. This will probably lead to another Triple H vs. Randy Orton main event before SummerSlam.
- The SummerSlam card is changing on a daily basis. The only “booked” matches so far are Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship and Cryme Tyme vs. Jericho-Big Show for the Tag Team Championships. There are also rumors that DX (Triple H and HBK) will face Legacy‘s (Rhodes and DiBiase). There is also some buzz of exciting divas match-ups to take place during the event.
- In more pro wrestling news, Stephanie McMahon was featured in a Business Weekly interview announcing potential GMs for upcoming Raw events. Freddie Prinze Jr, Bob Barker, and Reverend Al Sharpton were mentioned by name. Stephanie bragged about Raw’s five million weekly viewers and attemptedĀ to solicite celebrities as a means of hyping their own products. I guess Raw truely is the property of the USA network now. Other sources report that Shaquille O’Neal may re-appear in a second challenge to the Big Show and Mike Adamle is on the short list. Glen Howerton, Rob McElhenney, and Charlie Day from FX’s “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia“ have also been tossed about.
- ECW had to edit the audio track during the Abraham Washington segment featuring Shelton Benjamin and Zak Ryder due to the crowd chanting “this is stupid“.
- Speaking of ECW. Tommy Dreamer and Christian had one hell of an Extreme Rulez match. If you missed it, check it out below.
- This week’s wrestling kudos go to John Morrison. John was impressive last week on Smackdown during his title shot against Jeff Hardy. There were pin-fall attempts, counter moves, and innovative offenses between the two that were breath-taking. Morrison continued to showcase his in-ring prowess on Superstars against Canadian newcomer Tyson Kidd. John a top notch performer and could be considered the “Shawn Michaels“ of his generation.
- Matt Hardy re-appeared at this week’s Smackdown as special guest “enforcer“ for the main event featuring Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk. Yes, Matt will be cleared to wrestle within a few weeks.
- Video was leaked online of Drew McIntyre’s Titantron entrance though he has yet to debut in WWE. It was posted on youtube but has been removed.
-[Total Nonstop Action News for 08-08-2009]-
- Jeff Jarrett’s absense in TNA is having adverse effect on the shows. Jarrett’s hiatus from TNA stems from a relationship outside of the ring with ex-wife of current TNA Superstar Kurt Angle. Things began to errupt publicly when someone from inside TNA called a radio show reporting that Karen Angle was now living with Jeff Jarrett. While the two are not actually living together, it’s become apparent there are relations between the two and have been since before the divorce was decreed. Due to Jeff’s unprofessionalism, he seems to have been put on a long vacation from TNA programming for an indefinite amount of time. Meanwhile, Vince Russo has taken over creative control, Dixie Carter has released two key “Jarrett filters“, Dutch Mantel who was part of the Jarrett side of the creative team along with road agent Savio Vega.
- Speaking of Vince Russo, wasn’t he one of the responsible parties for the downfall of World Championship Wrestling (WCW)? Let’s see, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Booker T, and Vince Russo were all part of the NWO/WCW team. Russo is known for pushing “established talent” over “newer talent“, so expect to see less and less of the X-Division atheletes, the Knockouts will become a “backstage joke” again and will not be “featured talent” during PPV or iMPACT events. What you will see is more Main Event Mafia because “they put asses in the seats“.
- Traci Brooks is now known as H-Double-D of the Main Event Mafia. She’s been getting heat backstage for using Playboy to re-introduce her character. Traci Brooks is a TNA original and should be an attraction (no pun intended).
- Kurt Angle keeps threatening to take over the TNA creative team. So far, Dixie Carter is feeling the heat for Scott D’Amore’s firing since he was basically in charge of the TNA Knockouts Division. Dixie was warned this would happen, I’m waiting to see if she’ll let them bury her production too.

- Brett Hart will be doing a question and answer session at a Big Time Wrestling event in California and on August 16th, Brutus “The Barber“ Beefcake will appear in Lafayette, Indiana during a BMF wrestling event.
