Pro Wrestling News Report 10-16-2009
The Pro Wrestling News Report for October 16th, 2009
Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Pro Wrestling News
- Lead guitarist for both Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde, will be opening the show for TNA’s PPV, Bound For Glory with his rendition of the national anthem. Undoubtedly, Wylde is one of the most incredible rock guitarists of our time. However, TNA should be careful not to overspend on a pay-per-view when unemployment is at almost 10% in the US.
- There were several last minute changes to the Bound For Glory PPV card. Samoa Joe vs Bobby Lashley is now a submission match. The Motor City Machine Guns vs Lethal Consequences web match will also air on the PPV. The 4 corner tag team titles bout will bring tables, ladders, chairs, and chains and be dubbed a ‘Full Metal Mayhem‘ match. Finally, the Amazing Red has been added to Ultimate-X.
- It’s official! Kevin Nash recently came to a new agreement with TNA management and he has been signed for another year. There are rumors that Mr. Anderson (Mr. Kennedy in WWE) will be debuting on TNA during Bound For Glory.
- Apparently,it looks as if Lacey Von Erich is continuing with her father’s legacy of all looks, no brains. Backstage, she has been nicknamed ‘Rhaka Blonde‘ and already strained a mule in her right leg at a pre-show practice last week. I’m sure TNA management is just thrilled by this revelation, but why would they be up in arms about it now? Was she properly scouted or hired on looks alone?
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Pro Wrestling News
- Several sources have reported that Mickie James is unhappy with her sudden and simultaneous title loss / brand trade. Who wouldn’t be? Perhaps the female wrestlers in the WWE should re-think their respective contracts and consider joining the competition so they can be used in a fashion more geared toward their respective profession.
- Another unhappy camper is Dolph Ziggler who has been passed over several times for a title belt. Ziggler is a worthy competitor, however, WWE chose (or were forced to choose by Rey Mysterio) John Morrison. No one can argue, Morrison is a fabulous wrestler and has been working under cards and tag matches on a consistent basis for the company far longer than Ziggler. To have passed up Morrison to push another newer wrestler who has yet to establish himself would have been wrong. No, Mr. Ziggles will just have to patiently wait his turn.
- If you’re wondering whether Carlito was let go, wonder no more. He is still, gainfully, employed by WWE. However, the creative department can’t think of anything to do with him since they split up the Colóns. So they screwed up separating the two and now Carlito is off television – but he still has a job. <rolling eyes>
- R U Ready? Imagine this rumor… the two D-Generates on RAW (Triple H and Shawn Michaels in case you don’t get it) are not well liked by the younger talent. Neither are Randy Orton and John Cena, both of which have been the main focus of WWE creative as of late. The ‘internet rumors’ are that the younger talent treads lightly and does exactly what they are told by all four wrestlers or their push is halted. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.
Other Pro Wrestling News
- Ric Flair appeared on the ‘Busted Open’ Sirius radio show Tuesday and stated that he got the okay from Vince McMahon to come out of retirement and compete with Hulk Hogan on his Australian tour. Flair claims to be working and making money in his retirement, but he does not have $75 grand to repay his loan and retrieve his NWA World title? Either he’s lying and needs money, or he lied in the past and doesn’t care about wrestling or the NWA title.
- Once again, making pro wrestling news, Bret Hart was on a UK radio show bashing both TNA and WWE creative. Hart went so far as to say that Vince Russo should be hung by the neck in the back of the parking lot. While I tend to agree that both companies have creative difficulties, I feel WWE has the bigger problem. Four shows with new content every week and stars like Carlito are sitting around doing nothing? Hart also commented that he felt Randy Orton and AJ Styles were the best two performers in the world and gave props to Melina Perez. It’s interesting that he would name Orton (who does not ‘wrestle’ much) and Styles (who is phenomenal in the ring) while glossing over the obvious, The Hart Dynasty (you know… the people he actually trained and is related to) and the Samoan Submission Machine Joe (who, with respect to size, is very similar to the ‘Hitman’ in many ways). As for Melina, she has consistently good matches, but nothing has rivaled what the Awesome Kong vs Gail Kim matches did for women’s wrestling. It says something when the guys in the back are watching the match and forget that these are women out there wrestling.
- Ole Jim Cornette has a way of putting things into perspective when referring to TNA creative. “They have pay-per-views, they have national television. They have everything it takes to be successful. Unfortunately, it’s no secret, I’m not in favor of the creative direction,” Cornette said on WDFN 1130 AM in Detroit. “Creative has really held TNA back. They could be an alternative (to WWE), but they’re more of the same with a lower budget.” -Wiser words have have not been spoken. WWE has decided to emphasize the ‘entertainment’ aspect of wrestling. TNA should capture that lost ‘wrestling’ aspect and run with it. People want to see Daffney put through tables, they want to see unique stipulation matches, they want to see a dominate Kong holding the belt until someone can believably come and take it. In my humble opinion, offer blood, violence, aerobic stunts… everything EC-F’N-W offered with decent production and creative. It would shake WWE to it’s core and offer a true alternative product instead of the same ole.
Predictions by Cornette? Davey Richards, The Briscoes, Tyler Black, and Kenny Omega were cited as having “alot of talent”. Ring Of Honor has obvious flaws in photography, creative ideas, and is third rate at best as a wrestling production. However, Cornette may be able to help the product add more bells and whistles by adding refreshing ideas to the creative team ( waitaminute…do they have one?).
- Former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson had a ‘near death experience’ earlier this week. Torrie suffers from Thyroid problems and had a reaction to newly prescribed medication. The result led to her heart slowing down to under 30 bpm. Torrie says she is fine now, but a bit shaken by the experience of having her heart slowly stop.
