Pro Wrestling News Report 10-24-2009

The Pro Wrestling News Report for October 24th, 2009

- This is the ‘official’ World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Bragging Rights card:

* The Undertaker vs Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk vs Batista - World Heavyweight Championship
* Randy Orton vs John Cena - 1 hr Anything Goes Ironman Match - WWE Championship
* Intercontinental Champion John Morrison vs US Champion The Miz
* Melina, Kelly Kelly, & Gail Kim vs Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix, & Natalya Neidhart
* Raw = Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Big Show, Mark Henry, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, & Cody Rhodes vs Smackdown = Chris Jericho, Kane, Dolph Ziggler, Matt Hardy, Finlay, R-Truth, David Hart Smith, & Tyson Kidd

- According to pro wrestling news sources, The Undertaker is undergoing MRI’s to assess the damage to his knees. Melina Perez’s recent trade to RAW was a ‘reward’ for her efforts on Smackdown and she will be feuding with Jillian Hall over the title. It is, also, being widely reported that Beth Phoenix ‘The Glamazon’ will be teaming up with Dolph Ziggler in an attempt to refresh her character.

- WWE have seen fit to re-hire Lance Kade and Umaga pending their adherence to the wellness policies set forth by the company. While Kade may re-appear soon, Umaga is booked until early 2010 doing the Australian Hulkamania Tour.

- Forget the Jamaican superstar you once knew a week ago as Kofi Kingston, he will now be billed from Ghana, West Africa and his accent will be removed in an attempt to market him differently.

- Off on the campaign trail, Linda McMahon is running a political offensive by calling out Senator Chris Dodd on the very day President Barak O’Bama visits the state to endorse the current senator. Her message is clear, simple, and far from a smear campaign since Senator Dodd will not be able to continue to dodge ethics committees for long regarding his role in the US housing meltdown and failed stimulus package.

She addresses the dissuading remarks of Democrats trying to demonize her by associating World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) with violence and making statements that it advocated rape in some of it’s broadcasts.

If you’ll take notice, her opposition is not discussing pressing issues of government, they are busy trying to assassinate her character.

- A US Marine will face several charges including making official false statements, misconduct, and larceny for trying to gain free access to the Hagerstown, MD World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) show. Apparently, Sgt. David W. Budwah attended up to as many as 33 live events including rock concerts, baseball, and football games for free this year under the disguise of a decorated  war hero. How disgusting!

- Mick Foley has reportedly said he likes the direction the company is going recently with their emphasis on the younger talent in the roster. After watching Bound For Glory 2009 and the following iMPACT! episode, I could not agree more. Fresh faces, hardcore matches, wrestlers with diverse talents and desire to be the best damn company in the business. Drawbacks? Poorly planned out camera work that, at times, shows wrong angles that reveal how a wrestling move was done and make it look fake. Total Nonstop Action (TNA) wrestling has the talent and the equipment to compete with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) but, obviously, lacks the funding to tour the US and fill big arenas. However, if TNA keeps with it’s younger talent initiative, it will be in a place to compete with it’s arch rival in the future.

- Not all is hunky-dory in TNA land though, people backstage witnessed AJ Styles and creative head,Vince Russo, almost come to blows during this week’s television tapings. Styles seems to have taken issue with the way that he, Samoa Joe, and Suicide have been booked as of recent while Russo reminds Styles it was his idea to put the TNA World Championship around his waist.  Vince Russo has always seemed to prefer the younger talent (even back in the WCW days) on the roster, but from a creative aspect, Russo seems very limited and tends to repeat himself. Also, Lacey Von Erich is not doing much to endear herself with her peers backstage. Not only did she complain all night about a minor hamstring injury, but managed to fall flat on her face during a run in causing scenes to have to be edited. If that wasn’t enough, she sent a trainer to look for an ice pack into Awesome Kong’s dressing room while she was half-dressed. Kong grabbed Van Erich and took her to the trainer’s room cutting a promo on her in front of Angle. When Van Erich complained to TNA management, they sided with Kong.

- Pro wrestling news sources state that Awesome Kong got into a ‘real life’ altercation during a Bound For Glory after-party. Seems that some moron actually insulted her boyfriend and after she pushed him, he proceeded to get in her face. So, she kicked his ass. One hotel guest was quoted as saying ‘Awesome Kong is not a lady to mess with’.

- There are rumors that the mystery man who attacked AJ Styles last night was none other than Tyson Tomko, however, he has denied it on his Facebook account and no long term contracts have been signed as of now. There are also reports that WWE was interested in signing Tomko once his shoulder injury healed.

- Daffney was held overnight on Sunday after suffering a concussion during the Bound For Glory 2009 PPV. If you haven’t seen it, Daffney was thrown through a barbed-wire table ,straddled across the ring apron and a steel barricade, by Abyss after trying to interfere in his match with Mick Foley.

This concludes the Pro Wrestling News Report for Saturday, October 24th, 2009.
