The Pro Wrestling News Report for November 8th, 2009

TNA Pro Wrestling News

- Dixie Carter, CEO of Total Nonstop Action (TNA) wrestling is shaking up the wrestling world. With the signing of Hulk Hogan and the recent meeting aired live before this week’s TNA broadcast, Carter addressed the roster with plans of BIG changes within the company and challenged every wrestler in the company to step up their game. Not only has TNA acquired one of the biggest names in pro wrestling news today, but finds itself in the unique position of being able to do something that World Wrestling Entertainment cannot and will not offer. The cross between mixed martial arts style fighting (MMA) and wrestling. Dixie is genuinely interested in YOUR opinion, as far as which wrestlers you’d like to see more of, and can be contacted here.

- The latest acquisition of Hulk Hogan to TNA is has been a questionable move in my mind and the recent interview with Hogan in the Chicago Tribune makes evident that he is out for himself no matter what rederick you hear or he spews. It’s all about Hogan and the chances of him sticking around if Vince offered him a contract again are slim to none.

- The Tara vs Kim Coulture angle produced at Bound for Glory did not seem to have to desired effect. The potential rivalry is all but dead in the water and not many seem interested in pursuing the  angle. Speaking of Bound For Glory, only 2,400 people were in attendance for the live show even after months of promotion. As Hulk Hogan begins appearing on television, I believe that will all change.

- Jessica Kresa, better known as ODB, the current Knockouts Champion, has re-signed a multi-year deal with Total Nonstop Action (TNA) wrestling. Jim The Anvil Neidhart has joined the TNA roster and Raven will be making appearances again very soon.

- Samoa Joe had a lot to say about the validity of pro wrestling news sites last week on his twitter page. While he seems to understand that he is under the spotlight at all times and not everyone loves him and his character, he was mainly concerned with made up rumors and false quotes from himself. This site does it’s best to report only relevant things that happen in the wrestling world, but is limited to sources outside of TNA as we do not have direct lines to wrestlers or behind the scenes promotion exclusives. However, that being said, I am extremely careful about what I blog about and try to be as accurate as possible.

- In a very interesting interview by Matt Morgan in The Sun, I believe he hit on a key topic that eludes many wrestlers and creative teams alike. The role and popularity of a heel. Many wrestlers throughout history have played both roles with, mostly, babyfaces getting cheers and heels getting jeers. But, within the past ten years or so, the line has been blurred and many people are not paying attention to the wrestler’s character as much as the wrestler’s ability.

- According to Dave Meltzer  (The Wrestling Observer), several people within WWE, who do not normally watch TNA, tuned in for the Hulk Hogan announcement. A few were said to be shocked and thought the production was horrible while WWE took the stance that Hogan and Bischoff’s signing meant the death of the promotion. Personally, after watching TNA for the past several years on Spike TV, I’ve seen bad story lines, poor camera work, and even poorer management decisions. However, one thing remains consistent with the company. The wrestlers in TNA, from Kurt Angle to the Amazing Red bring everything they have into the ring at every performance. They offer a product unhampered by PG-TV ratings and actually listen to their fans in regards to who they would like to see more of in the ring.

WWE Pro Wrestling News

- Linda McMahon finds herself being charged with illegal ‘in-kind campaign contributions. In response, Linda McMahon’s spokesman Ed Patru calls the Connecticut Democratic party’s formal complaint a “baseless accusation” and says McMahon has complied with rules and regulations established by the federal government. “This latest attack from Chris Dodd speaks volumes about just how worried he is about Linda’s campaign,” Patru said. “It’s troubling that Chris Dodd’s political apparatus seems more concerned with watching wrestling videos on the Internet than restoring trust in government.”

- Sometimes you just have to love the cleverness of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) creative team, especially for the RAW brand. Putting Jack Swagger in a feud with the Miz vying for the affections of Eve Torres is so un-expected and original that I am truly stunned. And the endless possibilities of where this rivalry could end are jaw dropping. Neither Jack Swagger nor the Miz need Eve Torres to fuel their already over-masculated egos into a feud, this rivalry was destined to already be. The real question is are WWE creative adding Torres to the story to give her more exposure and push her character or are they concerned too much exposure in the WWE Diva division? Whatever the reason, unless the result is mind blowing, they are wasting Eve’s talents as a wrestler.

- World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) continually re-emphasizets it’s need for young talent to step up, but we keep getting the same old superstar matches over and over again. Currently, WWE is promoting matches between Randy Orton and John Cena in December RAW live events for the WWE Championship. But, Randy (after losing the Bragging Rights Iron Man match) is forbidden to wrestle Cena for the title. In the same way, the Miz was thrown off RAW only to re-appear a week later wrestling in a mask and re-winning a RAW contract. He was banned. Contract or not. So, expect future match stipulations to be meaningless within WWE as they have no intention of honoring the stipulations.

- As I had originally thought, Mickie James is not leaving wrestling just yet and her signing with Skyline Management is to help her get her country singing career off the ground. Mickie is said to be very happy where she currently is on Smackdown.

- Jamie Noble is thinking heavily about retirement after the beating he took at the hands of Sheamus on RAW this last week. Jamie has been in the hospital since after the attack with compressed shoulder and neck injuries.

Other Pro Wrestling News

- Mr. Anderson (formerly Mr. Kennedy) is being guided to not sign with any wrestling company by mentors. The feeling is that he will be offered a deal with WWE once the “Hulkamania” tour begins. This advice seems completely silly to me. Why would I want to re-join a company that unceremoniously dumped me at the whim of fellow wrestlers?
