-[TNA Hard Justice 2009-08-16]-

First on the card at Hard Justice was the Steel Asylum match that included pretty much the entire X-Division competing for number one contendership to the X-Division title. The Pope D’Angleo Dinero also made his debut in TNA, the Motor City Machine Guns, Jay Lethal, Consequences Creed, Suicide, Amazing Red, and Daniels who eventually won the match. I can’t say enough about the action involved in the Asylum except, the first match was worth the cost of the entire PPV.

Abyss beat Jethro Holiday, no surprise there.

What was surprising was that Hernandez took on all of the British Invasion by himself and won the match between him and Rob Terry in under three minutes getting his feast or fired case back.

Beer Money vs Brutus Magnus and Doug Williams was the typically great TNA tag team match won by the British Invasion after a distraction from Eric Young.

ODB and Cody Deaner faced The Beautiful People for the Knockout Championship. As ridiculous as Deaner is, he and ODB make a great pair and the two won the match after Madison Rayne screwed up and sprayed Velvet Sky with hairspray to the eyes instead of Deaner. Cody Deaner wins the match and the Knockout Championship title? This reminds me alot of the “Miss Wrestlemania” contest. Madison Rayne has evidentally been ex-communicated from the Beautiful People.

In the next Hard Justice event, Samoa Joe fought X-Division Champion Homicide in a match that was brutal. Homicide made a good showing, but Joe was, ultimately, too strong for Homicide once the “clutch” was applied. Samoa Joe becomes the new X-Division Champ, but Homicide has shown his potential as a true contender for Joe.

The Team 3D vs Scott Steiner and Booker T no disqualification match was out and out violent. Steiner made an exciting leap from one of the entrance alcoves among the crowd onto Bubba Ray and Booker T “Book Ended” Bubba Ray through a table. The match was wrought with pin attempts and ended as both Brother Devon pinned Booker T and Scott Steiner pinned Bubba Ray. The referees reviewed the video footage and declared Scott Steiner and Booker T the winners.

The next TNA Hard Justice match featured Kevin Nash vs Mick Foley for the Legends Championship belt. This match is setup around the classic story of “heart” vs “money”. Foley took one hell of a beating from Kevin Nash. At one point, Foley’s blood was splattered across a camera lens and still, Nash beat on him mercilessly. Foley turned the match around at one point and went Catus Jack all over Nash, but was ultimately defeated due to a distraction by Traci Brooks. The match ended with Kevin Nash pinning Mick Foley after striking him in the head with a barbed wire baseball bat. Foley was saved by Abyss who showed up with a barbed wire baseball bat of his own to chase Nash from the ring, but both wrestlers left the ring a bloody mess.

The final match of the evening was Sting vs Matt Morgan vs Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat match for the TNA World Championship title. Early in the match-up, Sting took on both Morgan and Angle single-handedly, but that did not last since Morgan and Angle were working on the same page to try and keep the belt from Sting. After a small tussle between Angle and Sting, Morgan took control and dominated the match for the most part. Eventually, Matt and Kurt’s partnership erupted outside the ring where Matt laid Kurt out with a “Carbon Footprint” to the concrete floor. The referee became caught up with Angle’s condition outside the ring until Morgan laid Sting out with another “Carbon Footprint”. As the referee counted, Angle pulled him out of the ring and whacked Matt Morgan with a chair allowing Kurt Angle the win. Looks like this was another great night to be Main Event Mafia.

Thus ended the TNA Hard Justice 2009 PPV, if you have not seen it, watch it. The first match alone was worth it.

The broadcast starts out with the crazed Mick Foley (aka. Cactus Jack) doing what he does best, keeping us all guessing what’s going to happen next. While Foley isn’t in top condition, he adds an uncertainty to the TNA world title.

The first match is a three on three tag team match featuring the Motorcity Machine Guns (Alec Shelley and Chris Sabin) along with Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Lethal Consequences (Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed) and Eric Young. You won’t see any sleeper holds here just fast-paced and action packed moves that will leave you thinking “how do they do that even once a month?” The Guns and Lethal Consequences are so young and talented that putting them in the same ring is bound to be jaw dropping. This match ends with Eric Young hittting a double “Death Valley Driver” on the Guns, and while they were taken out, Bashir was pinned by Jay Lethal after a little referee interference. What can you say about the wrestlers in this match except “incredible” there wasn’t a dull half-second.

The next match was the Monster’s Ball featuring the TNA Knockouts Taylor Wilde and Daffney (with Dr. Stevie and Abyss in her corner). I liked the Daffney persona, it was much better than the Governor persona. Unfortunately for her, she is outclassed by Taylor Wilde from a wrestling aspect and is pinned fairly quickly by being thrown off Wilde’s shoulders simultaneously into a trash can and the ring ropes.. Ouch!
Afterward, Taylor Wilde is attacked by Daffney and Abyss is instructed by Dr. Stevie to slam Wilde into a pile of thumbtacks. During the attack Louren, Abyss’ girlfriend, comes out to stop Abyss and Dr. Stevie threatens her with his belt. The result was Dr. Stevie being left in the ring, bloodied, with Daffney after being choke slammed into the pile of thumb tacks by Abyss.

Suicide, the mystery man who everyone thought was Christopher Daniels, takes on the ex-”Fallen Angel” himself. At the beginning of this match, Suicide really takes it to Daniels who seems to start with a “ground your opponent” strategy. Then it’s back and forth and both competitors are top notch, both have killer moves and neither spend time in boring sleeper holds. Eventually, Chris Sabin appears to distract Daniels and the referee while his partner Alec Shelley hits Suicide with what looks like Chris Jericho’s codebreaker. Daniels pinned him and won the X-Division Championship. However, once Daniels found out what happened, the match was restarted under a five minute time-limit rule. What ensues is five minutes of fast-paced action and beautiful moves, including an attempt by Daniels to perform a BME (Best Moon-sault ever) that was countered by turning it into a DDT, Suicide retained his title due to time constraints? (nuff said..)

Now it’s time for some blood, Awesome Kong vs. Angelina Love for the TNA Knockout title. Even without being angry due to the Beautiful people cutting her hair. Love had no chance. Kong is a brute. Hardly no offense from Angelina Love but the match was very entertaining as I watched Kong beat on her. Love actually wins this match by spraying hair-spray in the eyes of Kong and rolling her-up into a pin-fall. Even though Love won, Kong continues to brutalize Love and ends the match with an “Implant Buster”.

Kevin Nash vs. Samoa Joe. Hmm.. Kevin Nash hasn’t wrestled a good match since the WCW days, his knees are just plain broken. I wasn’t expecting much from him, but Joe’s been a man on fire for a long time and Nash made him out of control. This match was not exactly what I thought. While Joe did lots of “kicking the crap out of Nash”, which was expected, Kevin actually made a pretty good showing after having his head busted open on the ring steps. Eventually, Nash gave in to the rear naked choke hold. After the match Joe beats on Nash more until security comes out. Not the best match, but worth watching.

Some say tag team wrestling is dead. Not in TNA, it’s actually entertaining, not close to believable, but entertaining nonetheless. Beer Money Inc (Robert Roode and James Storm) vs. the newcomers the British Invasion (Brutus Magnus, Rob Terry, and Doug Williams) competing in the first ever 3D Tag Team Invitational. Roode and Storm are great wrestlers and even better showmen. I found myself laughing several times during the show even though I knew the outcome. The constant commotion with people running in and out of the ring made for a match that you could not take your eye off of for a second. The winners? Beer Money Inc. of course…

continued tomorrow due to time constraints.
