Being inspired by WWF wrestler Shawn Michaels, Lauren started her career working several Canadian independent circuits in 2000. While valeting for Chris Sabin and Eric Young she began training with Rob Fuego only worked briefly with the Total Nonstop Action promotion in 2004 feuding with Trinity.
Williams decided to come to America and was asked to tryout for WWE. In November of 2004, she began extensive training in developmental promotions. Starting in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) and working her way through Deep South Wrestling (DSW). Lauren managed Johnny Parisi and eventually worked her way into the squared circle. On September 8th 2005, Lauren had her first match winning over, now WWE diva, Michelle McCool. On a February 9th 2006 television taping she was injured and underwent knee surgery to repair a torn ACL. After around seven months of rehab, she stepped back into the ring at a DSW television taping.
Starting in November of 2006, she managed The Gymini until they were released from their contracts in January 2007. The General Manager of DSW, Krissy Vaine, constantly made Williams loose her matches due to interference by other divas. Later, in another DSW television taping, she aligned herself with Vaine to become the Co-General Manager of Deep South Wrestling. When DSW failed as a promotion in April of 2007, she was moved back to OVW until, on May 17th, 2007, her development contract was left expired.
She began her career as the Canadian Angel in independent promotions such as Asistencia AsesorÃa y Administración (AAA) in Mexico, Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling in Canada (ECCW), Full Throttle Wrestling (FTW) and the notorious National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in the US.
Angelina Love in Total Nonstop Action (TNA)
On October 9th, 2007, Angelina appeared in an interview spot announcing that she would participate in their annual pay-per-view Bound for Glory to crown the first ever TNA Knockout champion. At the event, she was eliminated by being thrown from the ring by Gail Kim and ODB. She competed again at Genesis for the Knockout title in a four-way match, but was unsuccessful in wresting the title from the grasp of Gail Kim. Shortly after this defeat, she formed a partnership with fellow wrestler Velvet Sky and officially changed her in-ring name to Angelina Love.
Angelina Love and Velvet Sky
The duo first competed under the name “Velvet-Love Entertainment” and at Turning Point, they defeated ODB and Roxxi Laveaux in a Knockouts Tag Team match. The following week they changed their name to “The Beautiful People” and attacked Laveaux and gave her a hostile makeover. At Lockdown, Angelina Love and Laveaux competed in the first ever “Queen of the Cage” match that stipulated first two competitors into the cage got a singles match; Love lost the match via pin-fall.
Angelina Love and The Beautiful People
At Sacrifice 2008, Love was booked in a unique match where the winner received a title shot against Awesome Kong and the loser received a “makeover” by getting their head shaved directly after the match. Love was eliminated from the match before qualifying for the title or the head shaving. She interfered during the title match causing Kim to lose her match against Awesome Kong. For Slammiversary, The Beautiful People hired Moose to join their team to face off with Kim, ODB, and Laveaux but lost the match. Angelina Love turned her attentions on Kim at Victory Road but lost in a singles match. In August at Hard Justice, The Beautiful People teamed with Awesome Kong in a losing effort against Gail Kim, ODB, and Taylor Wilde. Setting her sights directly on the Knockout Championship Love unsuccessfully challenged Wilde at No Surrender.
Finally, on April 19th, 2009, Angelina Love won the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship title by pinning Taylor Wilde in a Triple Threat match that also involved Awesome Kong. As a result of a cross-body block,Angeline Love suffered a concussion during the match. In the weeks that followed, Awesome Kong beat on Madison Rayne, Velvet Sky, Cute Kip, and senior referee Rudy Charles. Love retained her Knockouts Championship at Sacrifice but suffered two brutal Implant Busters from Awesome Kong after the match.
Love kicked Cute Kip out of The Beautiful People on May 28th, 2009 after a successful title defense against Sojournor Bolt. That night, she was Widow’s Peaked by debuting Knockout Tara (formerly WWE diva Victoria) officially and challenged for her title. At Slammiversary Love successfully defended her title against Tara. The Beautiful People are now engaged in a feud with Tara and Awesome Kong. On July 7th, 2009 she was forced by Tara to compete, losing the Knockouts title, or risk losing her friend Velvet Sky due to Tara threatening to place her pet tarantula on Sky’s prone body. Love spent the next four weeks being terrorized by Tara and her spider. At Victory Road, Angelina got her re-match, and Knockouts title back from Tara when, during a pin-fall attempt, the referee failed to see Tara’s foot on the ropes as he counted. This is the beginning of Angelina Love’s second title reign. The saga continued the following week as Angelina Love and the Beautiful People got Tara and Awesome Kong fighting each other when they were supposed to be tag team partners. Angelina Love and the Beautiful People got into a feud with ODB and Angelina allowed the Knockout title to be defended at Hard Justice via ODB and the Deaner vs The Beautiful People. Due to a screw up on the part of Madison Rayne, Love lost the title belt without even being pinned. The following week’s broadcast led to mayhem as Love assaulted Rayne not only before their short match which led to a quick pin-fall, but also afterward in the backstage area. Love made sure Rayne was no longer part of Mi Pi Sexy.
Angelina Love Released From TNA
On September 3rd, 2009, while negotiating a new contract, Angelina Love was released from the Total Nonstop Action Promotion due to an expired work visa she obtained when trying out for World Wrestling Entertainment many years ago. All negotiations ceased at that point and Lauren Williams was let go. She will probably re-appear quickly on the Canadian circuit and hopefully re-apply for a new visa and continue her pro wrestling career.
Angelina Love is beautiful, plays her gimmick well, is able to sell herself as heel or hero, and definitely has heart. It speaks volumes about any wrestlers passion when they endure a painful or life threatening injury, yet finish the match for their fans. Her in-ring performances are decent when matched with opponents with similar stats and if nothing else, she is resourceful. I wish Lauren Williams all the luck in the world and have sincere hopes that she will returns to the Knockout division one day to continue wrestling with the best.
