Japanese & Stampede Wrestling Circuits

Theodore Wilson had obvious pro wrestling aspirations at a young age. He was trained at the famous Stu Hart Dungeon wrestling school in Canada under the tutelage of Brett Hart and furthered his education with Tokyo Joe, who helped him get booked in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and house shows across England. By age fifteen, Wilson had his first professional match in the Canadian Stampede Wrestling promotion and approximately a year later, he competed in the opening bout of a World Wrestling Federation (WWF) house show in Calgary.

In April of 2002, Wilson spent nearly a year wrestling the NJPW circuit completing five tours across Japan before returning to Stampede Wrestling in Canada. By February of 2004, he had become one half and the Stampede International Tag Team Champions with Bruce Hart and was nicknamed “The Stampede Kid”. While working in Stampede, he acquired the British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight and the North American Heavyweight Championships. His final match for the promotion took place on February 9th, 2007 where he and Juggernaut successfully defended the Intercontinental Tag Team Championships. Shortly afterward, he vacated his title and moved on to bigger and higher paying promotions.

World Wrestling Entertainment Development

Around the end of 2006, Wilson was scouted by Bill DeMott. He impressed the WWE trainer and was moved to development territory Deep South Wrestling (DSW) (along with girlfriend Nattie Neidhart) within a few months. By late 2007, he was moved to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) after WWE severed ties with DSW. He became involved in a group of wrestlers known as the Next Generation Hart Foundation that featured himself, David Hart Smith, Nattie Neidhart, Teddy Hart, and Ted DiBiase Jr. On December 1rst, 2007, Wilson defeated Afa Jr. for the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship. The retained the title for only 17 days before losing it to fellow Next Generation Hart Foundation member Ted DiBiase Jr. As most of the group fell apart, both Wilson and David Hart Smith remained together and Natalya Neidhart became the tag team’s manager. On October 30, 2008 they won the FCW Tag Team Championships and retained them for approximately a month before moving up the ladder to WWE television.

Tyson Kidd and The Hart Dynasty

Wilson appeared for the first time on WWE television as “Tyson Kidd”, February 10th, 2009 on the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) brand and given a jobber to crucify. Natalya Neidhart was already signed to the Smackdown brand, but appeared with Tyson Kidd during his first match on ECW. By mid-April, Neidhart joined Kidd on the ECW brand during the WWE Supplemental Draft of 2009. On May 12th, 2009, during a scheduled match between Kidd and Finlay, DH Smith arrived on the scene and attacked Finlay re-joining Kidd and Neidhart  to re-form the tag team now known as the Hart Dynasty. After many successful matches in ECW and a resounding following, all three members of the Hart Dynasty were traded to the Smackdown brand where they fought tag teams such as Cryme Tyme and Legacy in both singles and tag competitions.

In my opinion, WWE has done very little to push the career of Tyson Kidd or anyone in the Hart Dynasty for that matter. While I agree pushing a group or individual too quickly can lead to burn out for both wrestler and fans alike, the lack of a push can have the same result. The Hart Dynasty should be main eventing the tag team championship matches by now. Unfortunately, WWE seems to be treating the group exactly like the original Hart Foundation sidestepping them all.
